FCCLA ACTIVITIES
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
FCCLA at Du Quoin High School has several activities in the fall. We start off the year with a “Registration Picnic”. This is held in September and we start our RADA/Stanley fundraiser at the same time. The fundraiser helps fund the club activities for the year.
In October, we have a pumpkin decorating contest at our October meeting.
In November, we attend the Illinois FCCLA Region 7 Fall Leadership Meeting at SIU Carbondale.
In December, we hold the FCCLA Cook-off. Members can cook as individuals or teams and enter their product in one of the categories. We have main-dish, side dish, breads, appetizers, salads and desserts. We have community members and teachers help judge the food. Winners receive cash prizes and our December meeting is held that night where the members decide the theme and colors of the Sweetheart dance.
In January, planning for the Sweetheart dance continues.
In February, the Sweetheart dance is held. The Sweetheart dance is a semi-formal dance that the entire school is invited to attend. The court however is only made up of FCCLA members.
Select members (based on points or competitive events) attend the state conference held in April.
That is our year in overview. Other things that FCCLA does thru the year are some community service activities. Members earn service points for participating in these projects. We collect quarters for the food pantry in M&M tubes for points. Members can bring in toys for kids for Christmas for points. Some of our members work at the Lights Fair during December for points as well.
