Dear Parents,

As the new school year date approaches, we are getting excited to start our new school year filled with new friendships and opportunities filled with new experiences. Our school is a wonderful place of learning for all our children. You can be assured that we strive to have important relationships with you because it takes all  of us to make DES a truly special place!

Please find below addition Questions/Answers to help you prepare for the upcoming school year:

How does my child get their Chromebook?
Distributing the Chromebook (which is a small laptop) to elementary students takes a few more steps than upper grade levels. The Chromebook requires a student email, which will be created in the coming weeks. Then the first week of school our teachers will help students login to the Chromebook using this unique school email account. They will also spend time making sure all our students are successfully able to login to the online programs we are using for the remote learning days. During the first week of school, elementary students will have print resources and assignments to complete and then we will switch over to a blended approach of print and digital resources. We will send an agreement for use of the Chromebook device, if renting, home with students the first week of school which needs parent and the student's signature. The second week of school, beginning the week of Aug. 24, we will send the devices home or contact you to pick it up. If you have not reserved a Chromebook laptop for your student, and will need one, please complete this form https://forms.gle/G6bo2aEhvV5zAKjW6 so we can begin preparing the devices and accounts for students.

How are students being checked for symptoms ? Does that happen prior to entering the school?
Great question! Yes our symptom checking will occur outside on the sidewalk. However, it takes us working together to maintain the health of all students, employees and our community. If your student is a bus rider, make sure to daily check your student and take his/her temperature prior to sending them to the bus. The symptom check questions include the following

  • Chills
  • Cough or shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches or headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat, congestion or runny rose
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

If your student's answer is yes to any of these conditions or they have 100*F temperature or higher temperature, they will not attend school until fever-free for at least 72 hours.  We will have employees asking all students these condition questions and will take temperatures prior to entering the school.

You can always keep up to date on the information from school by going to our website for the elementary school https://www.duquoinschools.org/elementary-school--61.
