Dr. Steve Mayerhofer Named as Next Du Quoin School Superintendent
December 16, 2022 - At the regular December meeting of the Du Quoin Community Unit School District 300 Board of Education, Dr. Steve Mayerhofer was officially named as the next superintendent for the school district to begin on July 1, 2023.
After the unanimous vote to approve a 3-year contract with Dr. Mayerhofer, Board President Brian Rodely stated, “We are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Mayerhofer as our next superintendent. We look forward to working with him, introducing him to our faculty, staff, and community and seeing him continue the successful traditions and history of the District.”
The Board began its search process for candidates in late August and accepted applications from potential candidates until mid-October. All board members participated in the candidate interviews and the Board included representatives from the Du Quoin Education Association and administration during the interviews.
The Du Quoin Education Association was represented by Co-Presidents Donna Lively and Zach Jones. In response to the hiring of Dr. Mayerhofer, the Du Quoin Education Association issued the following statement: “The Du Quoin Education Association would like to welcome Dr. Steven Mayerhofer to our district! We are excited to partner with Dr. Mayerhofer as we strive to fulfill our motto “Working Together for All Students”. The Association would also like to thank the Board of Education for allowing us to have our voices heard in the superintendent selection process. Having faculty/staff representation throughout this process brings our district closer together and facilitates the best environment for our students.”
The administration was represented during the interviews by Diana Rea, District Curriculum Director, and former principal at the elementary school. Following the board meeting, Mrs. Rea stated, “Superintendent Mayerhofer has the experiences, knowledge and qualities that are integral for our next superintendent. He believes in supporting the whole child and will model a clear vision for our district as the leader. I look forward to welcoming the newly selected superintendent, Dr. Steve Mayerhofer, along with the Du Quoin School administrative team, and beginning our collaborative effort in growing the school district.”
Dr. Mayerhofer, the current superintendent for the Desoto school district, was present at the meeting and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and excitement to start the position stating, “I am excited and honored to become a part of the Du Quoin School District on July 1, 2023. My wife [April] and I are planning to move to Du Quoin in the near future. I look forward to the opportunity to meet everyone and learn more about what makes the Du Quoin School District great!”
Dr. Mayerhofer is a native of Alton, Illinois and has over twenty years of experience in public education with time as a superintendent, building administrator, classroom teacher, and coach.
